Folding Arm Awnings are very useful in settings where permanent
shade is not desired and obstructions such as posts need to be
avoided. They operate by extending on arms away from a fixed structure
(wall) to an extension of up to 4.0 meters.
Optional sun and wind sensors can be installed to make the unit
retract depending on weather conditions. Common applications include:
- Street
cafe's
- North
facing windows in low wind areas
- Over
decking of outdoor entertaining areas

Coming in a range of sizes, these highly engineered umbrellas
are rated to sustain winds in excess of 148 km/hr. Made from galvanised
steel there are also a number of configurations avaliable, including:
- 3.2m
x 3.2m (central and side arm post options)
- 5.1m
x 5.1m (central and side arm post options)
Used
commonly in high wind and street cafe' situations, such structures
can also be joined to provide an excellent covered outdoor dining
areas.

This
structure was first developed for The Mulgrave Country Club, a major
suburban venue for gaming, lawn bowls, and recreation. Horizon Sailmakers
were approached to design a funky bowling shelter for
their new championship
green.
The
design can also be easily modified to include drop curtains at the
rear and sides.

This lower cost solution than the architectural umbrellas discussed
above aremade from a strong, powder coated alumimium frame and
also come in a number of sizes. Whilst not wind rated, they have
worked without failure in high wind locations near the water and
offer a great low cost alternative.
