In addition to the free form shade structures you can view on other pages of this website, Horizon Sailmakers have also developed some sophisticated automated and modular shade solutions.

These include:

Folding Arm Awnings are very useful in settings where permanent shade is not desired and obstructions such as posts need to be avoided. They operate by extending on arms away from a fixed structure (wall) to an extension of up to 4.0 meters.

Optional sun and wind sensors can be installed to make the unit retract depending on weather conditions. Common applications include:

  • Street cafe's
  • North facing windows in low wind areas
  • Over decking of outdoor entertaining areas

Coming in a range of sizes, these highly engineered umbrellas are rated to sustain winds in excess of 148 km/hr. Made from galvanised steel there are also a number of configurations avaliable, including:

  • 3.2m x 3.2m (central and side arm post options)
  • 5.1m x 5.1m (central and side arm post options)

Used commonly in high wind and street cafe' situations, such structures can also be joined to provide an excellent covered outdoor dining areas.

This structure was first developed for The Mulgrave Country Club, a major suburban venue for gaming, lawn bowls, and recreation. Horizon Sailmakers were approached to design a “funky” bowling shelter for their new championship
green.

The design can also be easily modified to include drop curtains at the rear and sides.

This lower cost solution than the architectural umbrellas discussed above aremade from a strong, powder coated alumimium frame and also come in a number of sizes. Whilst not wind rated, they have worked without failure in high wind locations near the water and offer a great low cost alternative.

Our unique aluminium-framed umbrellas are suitable for:

  • Gardens
  • Courtyards
  • Backyards
  • Roof tops
  • BBQ areas
  • Pool areas, etc.
